Lent began on Ash Wednesday 17th February. The purpose of Lent is to prepare ourselves for Easter. Its good to do this by giving something up and by taking something up in the space that's been created - like the daily devotions which are contained in the booklet attached here. Please click here to access your copy.
Lent devotions will also be said live on St Marks Facebook page every day at 12 noon.
We are a small church with a big heart.
We pride ourselves on our warm welcome and our love of music in worship.
Some of our church members were born in Longwood, baptised or married at St Marks Church and continue to worship here.
We provide traditional services as well as less formal family services. Seasonal services and a wide range of social and fundraising events, involving the local community.
We welcome children to all services and provide a children’s corner in the church with books and toys.
We have connections with local groups and schools and care about the community of Longwood and beyond.
The parish is a supporter of the Children’s Society with a collection at the Christingle service and through the Home Collection boxes scheme, CART (Christian African Relief Trust) a local and national charity and the Welcome Centre In Huddersfield. In addition to other nominated charities.
St Marks has supported the Diocesan link with Mara in Tanzania and has a parish link there. Money raised through various means has been sent to the parish to assist in the building of their church.
The priest is supported by a number of people, including a Baptism visitor. There are rotas for intercessions, readings and sidespersons. We are a congregation seeking to grow. Everyone is welcome wherever you may be on your spiritual journey.
